The Township of West Caldwell is a quiet New Jersey community conveniently located less than 20 miles from New York City. Its 11,233 citizens enjoy the benefits of a carefully planned residential community successfully balanced with commercial light industrial development.
West Caldwell is a pleasant blend of different styles and types of homes. Older homes, some built as early as the 1700's have been well preserved, reflecting the style of the Township's early residents. Balancing nicely with the older homes are new, modern single family dwellings reflecting today's advanced architecture and design.
West Caldwell also has several well maintained apartment complexes. These residences range in price from condominiums starting at about $150,000 to single family homes over $700,000.
The business district includes major shopping centers, with recently completed modern renovations, and a number of quality retail and commercial establishments all with large off-street parking areas.
West Caldwell also takes pride in its industrial parks which contain the modern headquarters and distribution centers of over 15 major U.S. and international companies, providing the community with tax ratables that exceed 340 million dollars.
Throughout its transition from rural to suburban life, West Caldwell has continued to adapt its Township services and facilities to meet the needs of its growing community. The modern Municipal Building is utilized for a variety of meetings by the Township Council and other official boards and citizen committees.
The Police Department is always adapting to the latest technology and recently underwent some major improvements. Pictured above are the new 911 dispatch desk and a typical mobile data terminal (MDT) mounted in a patrol car. The Fire Department, in existence since 1912, consists of a volunteer force of 60 firefighters. They are well equipped with modern equipment including an aerial ladder truck, two pumper trucks, a mini-pumper truck, a rescue/utility vehicle and a command vehicle.
