Hurricane Katrina left hundreds of thousands of people homeless, hungry, without power and without water. New Orleans was completely evacuated because of the massive flooding and related health risks. This was a catastrophic event of unprecedented magnitude. Many relief organizations are working to help people in need in the hurricane-ravaged areas. These organizations need our help to do their work. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has identified a number of agencies that accept cash donations (on-line contributions preferred). Some of the better-known agencies are listed below. A more complete list can be accessed at www.nj.com or www.7online.com (WABC News). Donations can be made directly to these agencies. Also residents can drop off their donation checks, already made out to the relief agency of their choice, at the Municipal Building and they will be forwarded to that agency.
