Police Department

West Caldwell boasts one of the finest Police Departments in the area, headed by the Police Chief and consisting of 30 officers (including 3 detectives), 1 civilian dispatcher, a clerk and 10 school crossing guards. In addition to offering superb police protection, the department sponsors many special programs: Neighborhood Watch (see "Organizations"), Red Hand child safety, Bicycle Safety and Registration, DWI School programs, Crime Prevention, Combat Auto Theft (CAT), Drug Awareness Reaction Education (DARE). Police officers are available to speak on any of these topics.

The Police Department, located at 21 Clinton Road, maintains a state and national computer system, 911 emergency phone system, juvenile department, traffic department, Detective Bureau, and a five-man unit of fully trained Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with specialized emergency response equipment.

Members of the department are constantly training in areas such as: firearms proficiency, baton handling, RADAR operation, Breathalyzer, Right to Know, hazardous materials handling, bias crime, environmental crime, domestic violence, criminal investigations, narcotics investigation, traffic investigations and daily updates in law.

Residents are encouraged to call Police Headquarters at 973-226-4114 as soon as they see anything that appears suspicious. Doing so is a significant deterrent to crime.
