DEDICATION CEREMONY IN MEMORY OF JANET MAY

On Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 12 noon, the large evergreen tree on the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Clinton Road was dedicated in memory of Janet May who was the first woman to serve on the Township Council. She was on the Council from 1979 through1992. Janet was also the Executive Director of the West Essex Chamber of Commerce for many years. About 50 people attended the ceremony.

Comments were offered by Mayor Joe Tempesta, Councilman Bill Payne and Councilwoman Jane Cook. Former Mayor Bob Reiher and Janet's husband Bill May also spoke. A bronze plaque will be located on a low pedestal in front of the tree. Fabrication of the plaque is not yet complete so a facsimile was presented to Bill May.
